1) One of the advantages are you can catch that person running or about to make a shot. it makes the picture look better than what it is.
2) If you have your camera on a tripod or sitting on a flat surface your picture would be very light like you have a ghost in your picture.
3) You should increase the ISO when there is not enough light.
